30 Minute Meals

Today is a lazy Sunday day. I am very snoozy with a slightly fuzzy lurgy head. I'm just not very good at sitting down and doing nothing so I have been on the sofa watching Jamie's 30 Minute Meals. With Sainsbury's Online Shopping open on the laptop so I can tot up the totals of the ingredients. Too much time on my hands? It's Sunday and I'm not feeling very well so hush.

Now, Jamie Oliver has worked like a trooper to improve food in schools and has made cooking interesting and accessible for many people and for this he deserves huge amount of respect. Quoted from Jamie's Website "If you love food and have hungry mouths to feed when you get home after a long day, then allow Jamie to introduce you to a revolutionary way of cooking." So, meals for the average family with working parents then? What a good idea.

I have totalled every ingredient and I appreciate that most households will already have salt, pepper, spices, oil etc. I have also chosen the brands that Jamie uses where possible or what I deemed to be the closest equivalent and it probably goes without saying that these are not Sainsbury's Basics... If you had an empty store cupboard and needed to buy every ingredient used the totals would be as follows-

Jerk Chicken served with Rice & Peas, Coriander Yoghurt and Chopped Salad- £51.60

Penne with Sausage Ragu served with Salad followed by Frangipane Tarts- £49.26
Wow. Pricey. I don't think these programmes are aimed at me and my modest salary!
