The Somerset Riviera.

c
I love breakfast. It's absolutely my favourite meal of the day. So many possibilities for comforting, interesting, ease-me-into-the-day food. Think beyond the cereal.

Mushrooms on toast. Proper toast from real bread. Cook mushrooms gently with olive oil and a little butter- don't use too much oil as the mushrooms will soak this up like a sponge (as will aubergines btw) so cook on a lower heat and wait for them to release their juices naturally. If they do seem a a bit dry, add a small amount of water. Season with black pepper is good. A good addition is mushroom ketchup. Use like Worcestershire sauce to add depth and a little spice.

Breakfast was counteracted by a long walk around the home city. A beautiful sunny day with stunning views across the bowl. I love the misleading palm tree!

Came home on Friday to a hefty discount voucher flyer through the door from Domino's. Pfftt. It being the weekend I had the time to make it! Decided to use Elizabeth David's dough recipe as follows-

5g dried yeast mixed with 2 tablespoons of milk. Warm 125g strong white bread flour and 1 teaspoon salt in a low oven for a few minutes. Mix in the yeast/milk mixture, 1 egg and 2 tablespoons of olive oil to form a dough. Mine needed more flour to form a non-sticky ball.

Put dough on a floured surface and knead until smooth (push it firmly with the heal of your hand, pull dough back towards you with the other hand, repeat!). Put dough back in bowl, cover and leave in a warm place for an hour or so to rise.

Mine did not rise. Anyway. Make the dough look like a pizza base and cover in pizza type toppings. In our case tomato, oregano, pancetta, black olives, sundried tomatoes (optional extra...) and mozzarella. Bake at 200°C until it looks like a cooked pizza. The base itself is quite rich (egg, olive oil, salt) and more like a pastry.

Pizza was eaten to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World which was awesome.
